“An improbable Magnolia tree offers its flowers to the night, by the light of the stars, in the profound solitude of the Gobi desert.”
Erotic, Primeval, Floral and Balsamic.

Magnolia Night Ode to Gobi. Unisex. Natural Perfume.

Atmosphere

An improbable Magnolia tree offers its flowers to the night, by the light of the stars, in the profound solitude of the Gobi desert. Like an Ode piercing the silence, its magical scent recalls of countless lives and times passed, love and betrayals, futile crusades, the blood and iron, from the mystic Samarkand to the imperial Chinese palaces or the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, all long gone or soon to be in the sands of Gobi. The Magnolia Ode, like the last song of the swan or the dark night of the soul, is a story of passion, anger, solitude, danger and courage. A song born from pride and pain, the claim to freedom and dignity in the dark hours when one is intrinsically alone, the call from a soul to the creation. Gathering one’s strength for an abysmal inward emotional dive into one’s heart and conscience, feared, delayed though unavoidable, from which one may remain lost but eventually emerge scarred, changed maybe, but above all existentially enriched.
Magnolia Night Ode meeting another soul would be the story of two solitudes embracing moments of unbound passion infused with power battles, admiration, repulsion and unconventional eroticism in a dangerous and obsessive attraction.

Pink Magnolia Blossom in spring

Notes
The alchemy of the Chinese Magnolia, Bulgarian Lavender, Australian Rose Myrtle and Egyptian Geranium flowers and leaves magnified by Brazilian Copal and caramelized in lavender honey. African, Indonesian and Australian precious woods, Namibian Omumgorwa Resin, and Peruvian Palo Verde improbably spiced up with Cambodian Kampot Long Red Pepper and Clove result in a mysteriously deep, dark and daring composition. Like a Samarkand pomegranate, which sublimed dark red juice would turn into a dangerous, addictive, semi-poisonous magical potion. Its oniric accords find resonance in the enigmatic litchee, the exhuberant guava, the powdery violet leaf and the ineffable mineral choya nakh, as smoked in a beach-washed seashell under the moonlight, resembling the sands when seas turn into deserts in earth geologic history.

Aging potential (consult storage instructions)

Moderate to low, this perfume ages very well in terms of scent profile particularly its resin, gum and woody content but special attention needs to be given to the lavender content as it has a higher potential for oxidation.

NadiaZ perfumes may contain 15-150 plants which bear unique active ingredients and interact with each other in NadiaZ holistic compositions. The featured plants are a selection of some of them for you to discover. Please check the menu NadiaZ Ingredients to learn more about the brand repertoire. NadiaZ is involved in research on the specific phytotherapeutic properties of indigenous plants, however perfumes enter in the cosmetic category and not in the medicinal one, which is why legislations do not make it possible to describe those on this website or the brand documentations. Feel free to google them or check on Wikipedia to get more information, or send an email for specific questions.

Magnolia (Michelia alba):

The Magnolia flower distinctive poetic shape that predates the apparition of the bees has inspired numerous artists and is a symbol of feminine sweetness and beauty in China. Its potent fragrance is creamy, sweet with a touch of acidity, easily overpowering any perfume composition. Lesser known is the essential oil extracted from its leaves which resemble in scent to the flower but with richer woody and darker notes.

Omumgorwa Resin (Commiphora tenuipetiolata):
Traditionally used as a perfume called Omove and as a soap by the Himba people in Namibia known for their reverence to beauty and the incredible skin care living under harsh weather conditions, this resin only forms after after a tree has died naturally and is thus sustainably harvested. Its smell, between candied date and freshly made caramel, is just amazing.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia and subgenus):
Lavender is highly prized worldwide for its unmistakable floral fresh and woody scent reminiscent of the fields in Tuscany or Provence. Its scent and therapeutic profile depends on subgenus and species as well as on the altitude, with Bulgarian High Altitude Lavender being arguably one of the finest. NadiaZ blends various lavenders in order to reach more complex and rounder scent profiles. In aromatherapy, Lavender is used an an anxiolytic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. Lavender contains linalyl acetate that may cause contact dermatitis on predisposed people.

Copal (Protium hepytaphyllum):
Also called Breu Branco in Brazil, it is a resin the tree naturally exudes from its trunk as a mean to protect itself against parasites or scratches caused by animals. It is initially a shiny white substance with a rather mineral somewhat spicy scent that dries up and solidifies with time. The shamans from the Amazonian forest use it for religious ceremonies the same way incense is being used in churches, or they make a medicinal topical preparation by mixing in oil for skin cicatrization and respiratory diseases. Copal makes an excellent natural fixative in perfumes due to its natural stickiness.

Palo Verde/Palo Brea/Incenso (Parkinsonia Praecox):

Palo Verde is a tree from tropical America, particularly the Sonora Desert. Yellow fragrant flowers appear in early spring. Its gum also called Goma Brea has seen recent research demonstrating the same usage as for Arabic gum (from the acacia). It is therefore accepted as a food additive in Argentina. The gum present a sticky texture with a yummy sweet and spicy aroma reminiscent to gingerbread.

Lychee (Litchi chinensis):

The lychee has long been considered as a delicacy in the Chinese Imperial Court and is one of oldest cultivated fruit. Its texture and floral aroma and its highly seasonality contribute to give this sumptuous fruit a treasure character. It is now grown in various countries in Asia as well as in South Africa and Madagascar. To capture it scent is nevertheless one of a natural perfumer toughest challenge.

Choya Nak:

Choya Nakh is a very rare indian traditional distillation of dry roasted seashells collected on the beach. The oil bears a unique smoky-oceanic aroma. In natural perfumery it is used in Russian leather and temple perfumes.

Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens):

A deeply aromatic essential oils with rose and minty overtones is extracted from the leaves of this highly prized Geranium species. It is known since ancient times for its  relaxing and calming properties, as well as for menstrual pain. Due to its high geraniol content, Geranium may cause allergic dermatitis with chronic inadequate exposure.  As a fragrance, some exquisite and ultra-refined Arab pastries incorporate a few drops of the hydrosol.

Violet (Viola odorata):

Unlike its flower, the extract obtained from violet leaves present a completely different aroma with hebaceous, powdery, dark and enigmatic notesthat subtly modifies a perfume emotional resonance.

Rose Myrtle (Leptospermum peterrsonii var B)
Rose Myrtle essential oil is from a very rare Australian plant with an uplifting aroma fresh, fruity with a gentle rose note.

rose-myrtle-flower

Kampot/Long pepper red (Piper longum):
Kampot Pepper takes its name from the province of Kampot in Cambodia. The red peppercorns are harvested by hand at full maturity. Less spicy than the black pepper, it develops powerful aromas of red fruit and honey.

Guava (Psidium guajava):
Guava belongs to the family of Myrtaceae and is the quintessential tropical fruit with an exhuberant, powerful musky aroma that instil energy. It is considered a “superfruit” as it boosts with vitamins (C, B,A) and flavonoids (beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and cryptoxanthin).

Ximenia Oil (Ximenia americana):
Also known as African Sour Plum and originating from the Southern Africa Savannahs, this oil has a unique honey-like consistency and is extremely moisturizing. It is an excellent fixative for perfumes, thus creating lasting aromas.

Use
Being ultra-concentrated and plant-based, this perfume is very special, creating a long-lasting scented layer marrying with the skin. So spray from a distance, on skin not exposed to the sun, leave 4 mins —until the alcohol evaporates— and only THEN smell. For a fainter scent or for sensitive skins, apply to clothes.

Caution
Shake before use to avoid blocking the spray pump. In case of blockage, remove the pump top and rinse well with water. Remove the shona stone lid first since this is not fixed to the cap. Once the bottle is empty, the stone can be removed from the cap and used for decoration and in art collections.

For external use only. Do not use on children and, as a precaution, avoid using perfumes during pregnancy as well as in the presence of children below 2 years old. Many essential oils can cause photosensitivity therefore do not use on skin exposed to the sun. All perfumes contain volatile substances; asthmatics may be best advised to test their reaction first, to apply in a well-ventilated place, and to choose roll-on applicators. Note that this is one of the most potent perfumes in the collection. Do not use every day! Wear this perfume for special days or nights, or alternate with other NadiaZ creations to diversify your exposure to valuable yet powerful plants constituents. Do not use on light colored fabrics; for coloured fabrics, test first on a small patch, and spray from a distance after mixing well to avoid oil staining.

Allergies
Contains tree nuts, kernel and unrefined virgin seed oils. May have been in contact with bee and dairy products. Contains Parkinsonia Praecox (Palo Verde/Brea) gum, Geranium and Lavender oils that may trigger contact allergies in predisposed people. A slight tingeling is normal and due to the pepper content, use with parcimony and space the days of use. Allergens occur naturally in essential oils; to prevent allergies, it is recommended to use in reasonable quantities, alternate perfumes, or apply on clothes. Likewise, it is recommendable to reduce all other sources of allergens at home (ambient perfumes, deodorizers, scented candles, harsh detergents, etc).

Storage
Store in a dark, dry and cool place. This is a natural product subject to small variations in color, scent and texture. This product is highly inflammable; keep away from any flame or heat, no not spray on an open flame or other ignition source. Keep out of reach from children. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately and consult a doctor. Use before expiration date (24 months).

NadiaZ formulations favor the preservation of the active ingredients by using virgin plant oils, thus many perfumes have several highly valuable phases, or sediments, which need to be blended by shaking before use. Waxes and butters may solidify in cold and regain fluidity when gently warmed up with your hands or in lukewarm water.

As many of the perfume ingredients are wild indigenous plants extracts, NadiaZ perfumes may vary slightly in scent, depending on ingredient origin, climate and harvest conditions, extraction methods and processing. While all NadiaZ ingredients concentrations are adjusted by the perfumer’s nose, NadiaZ aims for uttermost quality in its materials, without standardization, sourcing them from a wide variety of locations and producers. This minimizes their ecological footprint and involves working with smaller communities. As a result, this limits the environmental impact on a single geographical origin and improves the sustainability of harvesting practices, as well as reducing climatic risks.

About perfume aging

As a policy NadiaZ recommends to follow the storage instructions and expiration date as per the cosmetics legislation, particularly as we cannot guarantee the quality of your storage conditions at home. However, as for Grand Cru wines, some perfumes have aging potential and other not. NadiaZ perfume compositions make a great use of resins that just like oud, vetiver or ambergris, get more complexity with time, while citrus require a special attention due to their oxydative susceptibility. NadiaZ unique formulations and indigenous oil mix ensure an improved stability, however they remain natural and thus fragile.    In our workshop, perfumes are aged first till optimal level, tested regularly for stability and scent profile evolution and only poured in individual bottles fresh before sale. Mini-formats should never be aged as their small volume size and unsealed bottle present more risk for oxidation.

Recycling
Recycle glass and paper. Essential oils cannot be disposed in water; for safe disposal, pour on soil away from any water sources.

NadiaZ Perfume bottles can be refilled by sending them back to NadiaZ (directly or through your contact representative). The difference of environmental footprint on whether it is best to recycle NadiaZ bottles with your nearby glass collector or to send it back to NadiaZ is not simple to evaluate. It involves many parameters such as distances and mode of transport, collection capacity, sorting capacity (to separate the pumps or gold plates from the bottles)… Rest assured that whatever your decision is, it will be the best as long as you make the effort to recycle.

Our current boxes and pouches are conceived to be reused and protect the content during transportation. However, would you prefer to remove some of the packaging in recurring or grouped orders, we would be pleased to do so. NadiaZ favors the reuse of discarded shipping packaging, if your parcel contains  old looking plastic bubble wrap or paper, it is a because we are giving them a second life. Otherwise we are favoring natural fillers such as kapok fiber. Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) is chiefly cultivated in Asia and Indonesia; it is extremely soft, lighter than cotton, moisture-resistant, flammable and imputrescible.  Sadly  the fibre’s importance has decreased with the development of foam rubber and synthetic fibres.

    • elephantsandflowersI love Magnolia sounds great
    • Supprimer le commentairenadiaz_natural_luxury_perfumeMagnolia is a very powerful scent, in this perfume I try to reinterprete Magnolia in a way it has not been done before, rather has an accord that enriches the composition. This is a highly complex perfumes with about 60 plants. It is the first time palo verde, a shrub from the sonora desert has ever been used in a perfume. Your skin is the final ingredient, the perfume can become an innocent floral usually on light skins, asian or north european natives, or can take a mystic, dark and spicy woody tone on people with african, mediterranean or middle eastern ascent. But it also varies depending on age and gender. At the end of the day, you will only know when you try on yourself and experiment it on a few other people.
    • anayelperfume@nadiaz_natural_luxury_perfume interesting fact! Thank you for the additional information.

MAGNOLIA NIGHT ODE TO GOBI UNISEX, DE NADIA Z

Magnolia Night Ode To Gobi review by Lera Moon (16.07.2019)
Revealing for myself the world of flavors from Nadia Z, I understand more and more, how much I still do not know and how much new can be ahead, and it is very pleasing and gives inspiration! Magnolia in the nights of the Gobi Desert is another incredible olfactory experience. The fragrance is beautiful, as soon as the flower in the almost lifeless desert can be beautiful. Inhaling the aroma, I imagine the blackness of the night with the trills of unknown insects, suffering firmament and singing sand, remembering everything and everything, the harsh conditions and silence of nature…
The desert is like the personification of something already traversed, obsolete, deceased, concealing true secrets that no one knows about, which only some of those who know can guess … Bewitching stars silently gazing at this terrible beauty … and phantoms of magnolias that are here when something bloomed and pleased the eyes …. Or perhaps, under magnolia, Nadia presented the beauty of a person who stepped on this earth, a person who understood this desert world and was able to exchange energy with him … I do not know … but a magnolia in Gobi is something incredible….
The aroma seems to have absorbed all the olfactory notes of this unreal picture – and the strange smell of brackish sands hiding gold, and the sky and stars, creating an even more bottomless picture of a cold night in the desert, and some familiar aromas of human simple housing of an oiled labor whose hands… and the delicate scent of wild flowers …. everything mixes up and silently speaks about the eternal, each about his own….
As noted above, I hear this oily note in the fragrance among all the beautiful floral and other notes – it is pleasant enough, how pleasant it can be in general, but it also gives the fragrance a slight bitterness that any of us can wear deep in the soul, or once experienced … but everything passes … it will pass and this … and magnolias will bloom forever…
