Passion Fruit Oil (Passiflora eduli):
From the seeds of the tropical fruit, this oil contains flavonoids, carotenoids, vitamins E, F and K and vegetal squalene, helping protect against skin degeneration. It is a fast-absorbing, sebum-regulating, anti-etching, anti-rosacea and calming oil with a high content of linoleic acid that helps retain skin hydration.

Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima):
In its unrefined form, this oil is very rich in unsaponifiables and phytosterols, plant-based sterols which mimic the beneficial effect of cholesterol in human skin, increasing elasticity while reducing wrinkles and transepidermal water loss.

Marula (Sclerocarya birrea):
The Marula tree is related to the mango; it is drought resistant and most commonly found at low altitudes in open woodlands in Southern Africa. Marula oil has a powerful free radical scavenging ability and is a high potency antioxidant. It is easily absorbed and contains high proportions of oleic acid and linoleic fatty acid, making it ideal for skin rejuvenation.

Shea (Butyrospermum parkii):
The Shea tree grows wild in the equatorial belt of Central Africa, between Gambia and Sudan. This ingredient is famous worldwide for its regenerative, anti-inflammatory and UV absorption abilities. Its effectiveness depends on its percentage of unsaponifiables, including vitamins A. D, E, F, cinnamid acid and kariten, a component in latex.

Ximenia Oil (Ximenia americana):
Also known as African Sour Plum and originating from the Southern Africa Savannahs, this oil has a unique honey-like consistency. Ximenia oil contains Ximenynic acid, which has been shown to improve blood flow in the skin. Due to the exceptionally long fatty acid composition of the oil, it is known for its anti-aging effects and has amazing nourishing and moisturizing properties, reducing inflammation and redness, and improving skin elasticity.

Macadamia (Macadamia ternifolia):
A readily absorbed anti-aging oil thanks to its palmitoleic acid normally found in human sebum, conferring it great affinity with the skin.

Kpangnan/Painya (Pentadesma butyracea):
It is a tree native to Central and Western Africa, where it grows in the thick pluvial forests on riverbanks, and in swampy zones. Although Kpangnan and Shea butters have common characteristics, Kpangnan butter has a very unique composition with a high percentage of stigmasterol, a component rarely found in nature. Stigmasterol is a base material used in the creation of synthetic progesterone. It has been shown to lower the risk of certain cancers, and is anti-inflammatory.

kpangnan

Painya / Kpangnan (Pentadesma butyracea)

Baobab (Adansonia digitata):
The Baobab tree grows across Africa in hot, dry lowland areas. It is common for Baobabs to live over 1000 years. Baobab oil is non-siccative and contains a high percentage in beta-sitosterols that have been shown to be a strong antioxidant, and to reduce DNA damage in cells. The oil also contains vitamins A, D3 and E. Vitamin A, which, in combination with the essential fatty acids, helps rejuvenate and renew cell membranes.

Kalahari Melon (Citrullus lanatus):
The Kalahari Melon is sustainably harvested from the wild by women’s cooperatives. Its oil is an excellent source of omega-6 essential fatty acids, giving it strong moisturizing and restructuring skin properties. With nearly 2% unsaponifiables, the oil also has a high sterol content, which helps maintain the skin’s barrier function. Its high antioxidant activity possibly helps the plant to survive in the harsh Kalahari Desert.

Use
Apply every day preferably on the whole body or on targeted zones just after showering on damp skin. This will allow hydration to be retained in the skin while adding a protective layer to it. Repeat during the day.

Caution
For external use only.

Allergies
Contains tree nuts, kernel and unrefined virgin seed oils. May have been in contact with bee and dairy products. Shea butter contains kariten, a component of latex. People allergic to latex should test first or seek medical advice. To limit the occurrence of allergies, it is recommendable to reduce sources of allergens at home (ambient perfumes, deodorizers, scented candles, harsh detergents, humidity and molds, smoke, etc) and test for food or contact allergies.

No waxes, keep cool to avoid  melting! Store in a dark, dry and cool place. Use before expiration date (36 months). This is a natural product subject to small variations in color, scent and texture.

Almost all NadiaZ solid products are made without waxes to improve their penetrability. They can therefore melt if not stored in cool temperatures. Melting does not affect product quality in anyway; neither does the apparition of grains. Shea and other butters tend to develop a grainy consistency when cooling. This is easily corrected by melting the products at low temperature (30°C) and solidifying them again rapidly in cold temperature, in a fridge for example. Because the temperature of the butter is cooler in the areas in contact with the glass recipient than in the center, most NadiaZ solid products will present a small sinking of the butter in the middle, which does not by any way imply any flaw from surface or physical contact.

Recycle glass and paper.

NadiaZ uses Miron Glass, a precious and elegant violet glass, which can be traced back to the Ancient Egyptians who used it to store their medicinal products. It ensures the utmost preservation of fragile plant ingredients, thus reducing the need for any preservatives.

Miron glass is eco-friendly as it is 100% recyclable. You can discard it with your local glass collector or send it back to NadiaZ or your local  representative.

This is what Miron Glass does: Sunlight enables all plants to grow. If they continue to be exposed to the sun after reaching maturity, the effect of the light changes and accelerates the molecular decaying process. Miron violet glass works like a natural filter that only lets the sunlight that protects and improves the quality of premium and sensitive substances. Miron Violet glass blocks the complete spectrum of visible light with the exception of the violet part. At the same time it allows a certain part to be permeable for radiation in the spectral range of UV-A, and infra-red light. This unique combination offers optimal protection against the ageing processes that are released by visible light, thus lengthening durability and potency of products.

Our current boxes and pouches are conceived to be reused and protect the content during transportation. However, would you prefer to remove some of the packaging in recurring or grouped orders, we would be pleased to do so. NadiaZ favors the reuse of discarded shipping packaging, if your parcel contains  old looking plastic bubble wrap or paper, it is a because we are giving them a second life. Otherwise we are favoring natural fillers such as kapok fiber. Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) is chiefly cultivated in Asia and Indonesia; it is extremely soft, lighter than cotton, moisture-resistant, flammable and imputrescible.  Sadly  the fibre’s importance has decreased with the development of foam rubber and synthetic fibres.

Review: NADIAZ New Life natural body butter

How important is it to have access to organic #beauty products? Nowadays it is essential. We have become wiser and we want to know what kind of beauty products are being applied to our skin. We reject parabens, we are aware of dimethicone, we realize that a lot of chemicals that our mothers and we ourselves used in the past without thinking, without having any idea of the harsh consequences of using them, are banned from companies pro-#sustainability, ecologically protected, pro-animal protection, and so on. We see now our beautiful cosmetic labels saying Naturally based, Paraben free, Free of harmful chemicals, Cruelty-free, Gluten free, Hypoallergenic… and realize how relevant it is to use natural products, not only internally but externally as well. At the same time, we are more aware of the capacity of the biosphere to meet the needs of the present generation, without hindering future generations from being able to meet their needs. This means using our natural resources wisely in the short-term so that these resources are available in the long-term. This is exactly what Wikipedia says when defining the term “ecological sustainability.”

I enjoy writing about these subjects and using organic products as much as possible. Some are made with products base that we know. And then, some are #ancestral formulas that are used in remote areas of the world. How ethnic groups have survived in harsh areas with extreme temperatures below or above Fahrenheit by serving themselves from the nature surrounding them is amazing.

    nadiaz-new-life-body-butter-zoom

I have tested these days a natural #body butter from NadiaZ that belongs to this category of “ethnic beauty formulas”. In other words, these are beauty products related to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition. The natural body butter I’m featuring in this post, has in its formula, according to the website, “the best-kept-wild-crafted secrets of the san Kalahari people who care for their skin”.

So, who are the san Kalahari people?

We have seen documentaries about them. They are members of various indigenous hunter-gatherer people of Southern Africa, whose territories span Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa.

How they live, interact, hunt, protect themselves from the wild is absolutely amazing. But more amazing, to me, is a particular way of economy they used, called “gift economy”:

Traditionally, the San were an egalitarian society. Although they had hereditary chiefs, their authority was limited. The San made decisions among themselves by consensus, with women treated as relative equals. San economy was a gift economy, based on giving each other gifts regularly rather than on trading or purchasing goods and services. Wikipedia

Because of the growing areas in Africa, these people’s way of life is changing little by little. Their ancestral way of society is one of the most interesting and we need to be aware of these aspects globally speaking.

One of the most interesting characteristics of this natural body butter by NADIAZ that I tested during this week has to do with its texture. What appears to be a rather solid butter, becomes fluid and almost watery when applied on my skin, although there is no water in the formula. Some of the ingredients are also new to me.

    100% natural plant ingredients.

    Virgin Vegetable oils

    No synthetic fragrances

    No chemical preservatives

    EXCEPTIONS:

People with skin reactions to avocado oil (skin breakouts) Read further below Cosdna section.

My skin is sensitive, but no allergy or reaction came out from using this body butter after having used it daily for seven days. Also, this is a body butter and not a face cream or oil.

From the website: Contains tree nuts, kernel, and unrefined virgin seed oils. May have been in contact with bee and dairy products. Shea butter contains kariten, a component of latex. People allergic to latex should test first or seek medical advice. To limit the occurrence of allergies, it is recommendable to reduce sources of allergens at home (ambient perfumes, deodorizers, scented candles, harsh detergents, humidity and molds, smoke etc) and test for food or contact allergies.

    INGREDIENTS and INTERESTING FACTS:

The ingredients that make part of this natural body butter are:
    MARULA: (Sclerocarya birrea)
Marula oil comes from the fruits of the Marula tree. It has a powerful free radical scavenging ability and is a high potency antioxidant. It is easily absorbed and contains high proportions of oleic acid and linoleic fatty acid, making it ideal for skin rejuvenation. It is good for sensitive skins as well, can be used for babies, and some women in Africa use it for cleansing.

    KPANGNAN / PANYA (Pentadesma butyracea)
Native tree to Central and Western Africa. Contains a high percentage of stigmasterol (anti-inflammatory properties, as well as useful in the prevention of certain cancers) It is used as a precursor in the manufacture of semisynthetic progesterone.

    KALAHARI MELON (Citrullus lanatus)

Sustainably harvested from the wild by women’s cooperatives. Its oil is an excellent source of omega-6 essential fatty acids. Highly hydrating, skin healer, tissue restructuring, high sterol content, makes a barrier that protects the skin. Highly antioxidant properties.

    BAOBAB (Adansonia digitata)

This tree is capable of having a lifespan of over 1000 years! In its composition enters beta-sitosterol, a strong antioxidant and damage reducer in DNA cells. It contains vitamin E and A, source of rejuvenation.

    SHEA (Butyrospermum parkii)

Regenerative, anti-inflammatory and UV absorption abilities. Vitamins A, D, E, F, cinnamid acid and karité butter.

    XIMENIA Oil (Ximenia americana)

Known as African Sour Plum. Honey-like consistency. Contains Ximenynic acid, which improves blood flow in the skin. Long fatty acids enter in its composition, thus anti-aging effects. Highly nourishing and moisturizing properties. Reduces inflammation and redness. Improves skin elasticity.

    PASSION FRUIT (Passiflora edulis)
Seed oil containing flavonoids, carotenoids, vitamins E, F, K, squalane. Skin regeneration. Sebum regulating. Anti rosacea. Calming oil. Its high content of linoleic acid helps retain skin hydration.

    MACADAMIA (Macadamia ternifolia)

Anti-aging oil with great affinity with the skin (we generate palmitoleic acid in our human sebum, an important component of Macadamia oil)

    AVOCADO OIL (Persea gratissima)

Unrefined form, very rich in unsaponifiable and phytosterols, cholesterol-like benefits on the skin, elasticity, wrinkle reducer, anti-inflammatory.

    COCOA (Theobroma cacao)

Butter is emollient, anti-aging and it helps maintain the levels of skin collagen.

    SCENT:

It has a nutty scent that lasts about one minute and then disappears. This scent is the natural scent of these ingredients. There is no fragrance added.

    HOW TO USE:

Use on your daily body skin care routine. It is recommended to use on damp skin it after a shower or bath to better retain its moisturizing elements.

I have used a little of the sample I received because, although it is a general saying “a little goes a long way”, in this case, it is truly appropriate to say this. After I applied the butter on my hand first, the rapidity with which the butter became an oil was incredible. It melted so quickly and it was so agreeable the feeling that I applied it too to my legs and arms. My skin looked protected, radiant, and richly hydrated. This formula is extremely rich in beneficial elements if you see all the ingredients. It’s almost like having six, seven body products in one, each element is #unique by itself.

My skin did not appear greasy, but rather hydrated something that surprised me due to its quantity of oils. The formula is a wise one, based on centuries of use and tradition. How can a formula made with so many butterish oils become so liquefied and absorbed is a wonderful aspect of it that I have enjoyed while using it.
    COSDNA INFORMATION:

I have submitted to Cosdna this list of ingredients. Here is the result:

In the effect that avocado oil is used on the face it could trigger breakouts. I haven’t had any reaction on my body skin, which is sensitive as well.

    HOW IT WORKS:

This is an excellent winter cozy natural body butter. Also can be used in the summer after an evening shower, for a good feeling of hydration afterward. I like the fact that it leaves a layer of hydration that is visible and beautifies my skin. I don’t feel it greasy and as if the body butter did not really get absorbed by my skin, on the contrary, this body butter is absorbed very quickly by the skin. I like using it on my legs, hands and arms. My skin looks glowy and also radiant. I also have the feeling of using some kind of “ancestral beauty cosmetic”, and makes me feel good knowing that all the ingredients are so natural, organic and beneficial.

    PRESENTATION:

    nadiaz-new-life-body-butter-single

The original jar containing this natural body butter is made with Miron Glass, a precious and elegant violet glass, which can be traced back to the Ancient Egyptians who used it to store their medicinal products. It ensures the utmost preservation of fragile plant ingredients, thus reducing the need for any preservatives.

    CONCLUSION:

This is not a mere organic beauty product. It is more than this. An ancestral formula with ancestral benefits, all together like a precious treasure chest. Looks more like a Holy Grail to me. I know we are more and more fortunate to be able to let other cultures’ beneficial products reach us, and for us, it is an exotic discovery. In reality, it has always been there, and men and women found the way of making them useful for the human being. I love the possibility of using these kinds of products. They are more than just cosmetic. They are medicinal, magical and even spiritual.

Thank you Anna, New Life and New Life Baby are really the ultimate in organic beauty. Many people ask me to add perfume in it but I keep the original formula which is best tolerated for a life time use, no perfume, only the natural scents of the rich indigenous butters in it.
