NadiaZ perfumes may contain 15-150 plants which bear unique active ingredients and interact with each other in NadiaZ holistic compositions. The featured plants are a selection of some of them for you to discover. Please check the menu NadiaZ Ingredients to learn more about the brand repertoire. NadiaZ is involved in research on the specific phytotherapeutic properties of indigenous plants, however perfumes enter in the cosmetic category and not in the medicinal one, which is why legislations do not make it possible to describe those on this website or the brand documentations. Feel free to google them or check on Wikipedia to get more information, or send an email for specific questions.

Agarwood (Aquilaria agallocha):
Reputed to be the most expensive wood in the world, Agarwood (Oudh in Arabic) is formed as a result of parasitic intervention on the tree. While the trees have become scarce, especially in India, thankfully replanting efforts have been successful. The Agarwood scent has been revered throughout the Orient since time immemorial, and used in Arabic perfumery as a signature scent. It is powerful and pervasive, with the tiniest amount being quite perceptible. Often reserved for male fragrances, NadiaZ ingeniously blends it to infuse women’s perfumes with mystery and character.

oud

Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata):
Considered an aphrodisiac, is a precious flower from Madagascar and Comoros with an unmistakable, penetrating, sweet and sensual scent that helps alleviate tension and anxiety. Its sustainable cultivation is a major source of income for these island communities.

ylang-ylang

ylang-tree

Tonka Bean (Dipteryx odorata):
Native to Latin America, where they are mostly grown by rural households, Tonka beans have a magical vanilla-like, caramelized biscuit scent, prized in perfumery and gastronomy. They add an exquisite, unmistakable touch bringing new depths to a composition.

tonka-bean

Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia):
This is a world-famous orchid cultivated since Pre-Columbian times. NadiaZ selects only the finest Bourbon Vanilla from the Indian Ocean Islands for this complex aroma.

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin):
Native to tropical regions in Asia, some of the finest productions of this herb are in Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Its quality differs greatly depending on the processing and maturing techniques used. NadiaZ uses patchouli for its fine, light, sweet yet earthy aroma, blending so masterfully into the perfume composition that it is almost imperceptible.

patchouli

Mimosa (Acacia decurrens):
These puffy flowers, from Acacia trees, found from Africa to India to Australia, are reminiscent of a mother’s soft embrace, yet enigmatic and elusive. Honey-like with hints of wood and grass, this aroma magically reveals itself once every other scent wears off.

mimosa

Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum):
Sandalwood is prized for its rich, sweet, spiritual and woody scent. Used in traditional medicine and religious rituals for millennia, it has been brought to the verge of extinction in India. NadiaZ sources Sandalwood from a variety of species around the globe, from Australia to New Caledonia, where it is protected and sustainably harvested.

sandalwood

Orange Blossom/Neroli (Citrus aurantium amara):
Together with Jasmine, Orange Blossom is the most distinctive scent reminiscent of enchanting Mediterranean nights. Its pervasive aroma is an integral part of in North African culture, from perfumery, to cooking, and in daily life as a means of purification and appeasement.

orange-blossom0

orange-blossom-tree

Massoia (Cryptocaria massoia):
An indigenous tree from New Guinea, Massoia has been used for traditional ointments by Balinese women for centuries. The bark of the tree has a sweet creamy coconut-like aroma and is one of the very few natural sources of lactones, which are otherwise produced synthetically. The concentrated oil may be considered irritant for the skin, as is Cinnamon, and therefore legislation may vary between countries. NadiaZ Perfumes, however, uses it in very small concentrations and in a specifically designed oily substrate that reduces irritations. Its distinctive fragrance will reach in and awaken sweet emotions.

massoia

Rum:
NadiaZ has carefully selected an extract to bring to this perfume the quintessence of pure sugar cane Martinican rum with woody-balsamic, fruity notes, aged to perfection. Even the faintest trace of this aroma provokes the mind to adventure to exotic destinations.

rhum

Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense):
The Pequi tree is found in Brazil and Paraguay. Pequi is a tasty edible fruit, popular in some areas of Brazil where it is used by the population for food, cosmetics and medicine. NadiaZ Perfumes is the very first perfume line to introduce Pequi oil as an ingredient thanks to its quintessential tropical fruit scent.

pequi-on-tree

pequi

Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera):
Used in Ayurvedic practice, the Lotus is considered sacred by many cultures. The Lotus was used as far back as in Ancient Egypt and it is also a component in Hindu sacred perfumes. A symbol of enlightenment, this delicate flower, unspoiled by the muddy waters, is cultivated widely in India and Uganda.

Beeswax (Apis mellifera):
Made from honeycomb, beeswax absolute has honey, pollen and skin-like notes that confer it a subtle, soft, cocooning scent.

Ximenia Oil (Ximenia americana):
Also known as African Sour Plum and originating from the Southern Africa Savannahs, this oil has a unique honey-like consistency and is extremely moisturizing. It is reputed to be antimicrobial, and stimulates the sebaceous glands, promoting optimal skin functions. It is an excellent fixative for perfumes, thus creating lasting aromas.

ximenia

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao):
Rich in anti-aging polyphenols and theobromin, Cocoa helps maintain the skin’s collagen levels and is a mood enhancer.

Carnation (Dianthus cariophyllus):

Use
Being ultraconcentrated and plant-based, this perfume is very special, creating a longlasting scented layer marrying with the skin. So spray from a distance, on skin not exposed to the sun, leave 4 mins —until the alcohol evaporates— and only THEN smell. For a fainter scent, apply to clothes.

Caution
Shake before use to avoid blocking the spray pump. In case of blockage, remove the pump top and rinse well with water. Remove the shona stone lid first since this is not fixed to the cap. Once the bottle is empty, the stone can be removed from the cap and used for decoration and in art collections.

For external use only. Do not use on children and, as a precaution, avoid using perfumes during pregnancy. Many essential oils can cause photosensitivity therefore do not use on skin exposed to the sun. All perfumes contain volatile substances; asthmatics may be best advised to test their reaction first, to apply in a well-ventilated place, and to choose roll-on applicators. Wear this perfume for special days or nights, or alternate with other NadiaZ creations to diversify your exposure to valuable yet powerful plants constituents. It is not advisable for people with liver conditions. Do not use on light colored fabrics; for coloured fabrics, test first on a small patch, and spray from a distance after mixing well to avoid oil staining.

Allergies
Contains tree nuts, kernel and unrefined virgin seed oils. May have been in contact with bee and dairy products. To limit the occurrence of allergies, it is recommendable to reduce sources of allergens at home (ambient perfumes, deodorizers, scented candles, harsh detergents, humidity and molds, smoke, etc) and test for food or contact allergies.

Storage
Store in a dark, dry and cool place. This is a natural product subject to small variations in color, scent and texture. This product is highly inflammable; keep away from any flame or heat, no not spray on an open flame or other ignition source. Keep out of reach from children. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately and consult a doctor. Use before expiration date (24 months).

NadiaZ formulations favor the preservation of the active ingredients by using virgin plant oils, thus many perfumes have several highly valuable phases, or sediments, which need to be blended by shaking before use. Waxes and butters may solidify in cold and regain fluidity when gently warmed up with your hands or in lukewarm water.

As many of the perfume ingredients are wild indigenous plants extracts, NadiaZ perfumes may vary slightly in scent, depending on ingredient origin, climate and harvest conditions, extraction methods and processing. While all NadiaZ ingredients concentrations are adjusted by the perfumer’s nose, NadiaZ aims for uttermost quality in its materials, without standardization, sourcing them from a wide variety of locations and producers. This minimizes their ecological footprint and involves working with smaller communities. As a result, this limits the environmental impact on a single geographical origin and improves the sustainability of harvesting practices, as well as reducing climatic risks.

About perfume aging

As a policy NadiaZ recommends to follow the storage instructions and expiration date as per the cosmetics legislation, particularly as we cannot guarantee the quality of your storage conditions at home. However, as for Grand Cru wines, some perfumes have aging potential and other not. NadiaZ perfume compositions make a great use of resins that just like oud, vetiver or ambergris, get more complexity with time, while citrus require a special attention due to their oxydative susceptibility. NadiaZ unique formulations and indigenous oil mix ensure an improved stability, however they remain natural and thus fragile.    In our workshop, perfumes are aged first till optimal level, tested regularly for stability and scent profile evolution and only poured in individual bottles fresh before sale. Mini-formats should never be aged as their small volume size and unsealed bottle present more risk for oxidation.

    Espiritu Pirata Fragrance Reviews
    VintageLady
VintageLadyThis perfume belongs, according to its website, to the “Woodland Ecosystem”. It is an inspiring perfume, the kind of perfume that makes you travel, geographically, and in time. It is a very lasting sweet perfume. It truly takes me to a forgotten pirate ship or an imaginary museum where all I can see is old maps, leather objects, wood chests just opened, rum bottles with the sweet smell of sugar cane. It is warm and spicy, but it is also a happy perfume as if suddenly I was again very young girl enjoying sea-sailing adventures tales far away in time. The first notes make me discover a very sweet rum, that after some seconds let other notes appear, like ylang-ylang and orange blossom. There is a constant sweet scent added by blackcurrant, I love this note! Then vanilla starts its own entrance, sandalwood, and other notes that are spicy, including oils and resins that I had not smelled before, probably ximenia and pequi.

This is the kind of perfume that I enjoy wearing in the afternoon, evening, and night. Especially in a dull, rainy weather. It brings joy and spice and I was complimented several times while wearing it. I will wear on Christmas’s evening while relaxing with friends and family. It’s a dose of exhilaration that is very very welcome!

ESPIRITU PIRATA, A LUXURY PERFUME BY NADIAZ

    atm-esp-pirata-mwsrgvb

There was a time without airplanes, helicopters, military aircraft, B-29… People looked up to the sky to watch the stars, find a serene time, feel the Universe, God…

There were no jets, only horses to move from one place to another. There was also the sea…

Ships by the hundreds were coming and going from distant places to harbors and bays. Of course, the spirit of adventure was so popular that wanderers and stowaways crossed the sea without being noticed, following, in many cases, the love for the unknown.

Pirates, flibustiers, and corsairs are now legends, but their adventures, true or imaginary, filled books that became famous all over the world.

Under this spirit that revives the spice trade era, sailing with Malay pirates of the Indian Ocean, ESPIRITU PIRATA was created by Nadia Zuodar.

This women’s luxury perfume (there is the man’s version as well) follows the recreation of the Ecosystems, a source of inspiration that its creator uses to express Art through Perfume (Art condensing Beauty, Feelings, Connection with the Biosphere, Inner Discovery).

    WOODLAND ECOSYSTEM

Espiritu Pirata’s atmosphere is “a recreation of the explosion of scents in the hold of a pirate vessel: from the caramelized sweetness of Rum and Spices to the enriched timber. A gourmand; a tantalizing, hypnotic, oriental potion for an irresistible attraction.”

    GOURMAND, CARAMELIZED, WOODY AND CREAMY

I felt very keen to write an article on this perfume as it is one of my favorites. These perfumes are very concentrated, just a drop or two are enough for me to feel their effect. Also, they are meant to be used not only as a luxury perfume but as a medium for introspectiveness just by inhaling them, so they make us more aware or connected to the earth, the sea, the rivers, the stars.

I have applied two drops on my right wrist from the sample, and it was an explosion of scents. Strong and sweet, I loved it. It took me back in time but it is not a vintage perfume scent. I felt as if I had literally been put in an old boat filled with treasures. There are chests that haven’t been opened for years and years. When I open them, an intoxicating mixture of sweet tobacco, rum, and spices starts filling the place. I can also feel there are old books somewhere, and old treasure maps made with parchment, while sweet dried fruits are mixing up with the scents and the precious woods that the chests are made of.

After five minutes, Espiritu Pirata becomes warm, woody, spicy, all at the same time. There is a fusion of scents that is warm with flowers and very gourmand. At this moment, memories of my trip to The Bahamas start to appear: Pirates of Nassau Museum, antique shops, the Fort…

    nadiaz-perfume-label

HOW DOES IT MAKE ME FEEL AND HOW TO WEAR IT?

It’s like the genie in a bottle: these scents we know they exist, in the natural world, although not altogether, untouched by man. To smell this composition is to recover something that is not lost, but that is far from my reach, and now I got it, like a box of charms that I want to keep. It makes me feel the Adventure, the warmness of a place full of exotism. It’s caring and protecting.

I am thinking of wearing this perfume as a surprise one day very soon (maybe afternoon, I think it is a perfume for evenings and nights, but also rainy days like today) and I want to spread a little on my palms and rub it to the ends of my hair. I will wear black clothes (or brown) and a ponytail. I will wear boots, and I know it will make me feel very reassured and protected.

    OLFACTIVE NOTES

Martinique Rum. It comes out with the other scents

    FLOWERS:

    Ylang Ylang, Mimosa, Orange Blossom

    HERBS AND BERRIES:

    Blackcurrant, Patchouli

    PRECIOUS AUSTRALIAN WOODS

Massoia (not present in the US version) I don’t know what version I have tested and I don’t know how this wood smells, so I can’t really say much about this.

    Sandalwood

    SPICES

    Tonka, Vanilla, Cocoa

    INDIGENOUS OILS, AMONG THEM:

    Ximenia, Pequi

The scent of rum, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, black currant, sandalwood, vanilla, are very present in this perfume. I feel it is an excellent way to recreate an atmosphere, it prepares me for a dinner at night (carefully applied on wrists, and one spray either behind the neck or on shoulders) It is fragrant and sweet, gourmand (very!) and warm and a happy luxurious perfume.

My personal adventure has some scent that I want to keep almost like a secret.

An afternoon of sniffing the truly amaZING perfume elixirs of Nadia Zuodar along with Svetlanas Komunity Turkish coffee. Pure DeLIGHT. These perfumes are in a league of their own creating a direct link to experiencing from the perspective of ‘Group Consciousness’ that we are all connected and NATURE provides the harmony. So beautiful to experience this ‘relationship’ – love……
Svetlanas Komunity What a perfect way to come to my desired outcome. My last 3 days I was doing my ascension and when Anita Kalnay came over for a visit and Turkish Coffee she brought over this amazing work that was done by Nadia Z. The perfume that called out to me was Metamorphose Lilas Night-Unisex-. In those few seconds I was taken through all the realms, timelines, and bodies to my desired outcome where I am the hero to my story!!
Many thanks to Anita and Nadia!! much love
Anita Kalnay Espiritu Pirata- woman – jumped into my arms and hugged me for the rest of the day ‘humming like a cargo of gold’ in the hold. It picked me! https://nadiaz.ch/product/espiritu-pirata-woman/
Its impossible to describe these 100% natural perfumes from the perspective of scent alone. Not only is Nadia one of the best Formulators out there with her background as a Scientist – but she also captures the beauty and empathy of an Artist and the graciousness and generosity of a true healer (much of her work is International Relief work that has taken her around the world). I will write more about these Perfumes soon, but they deserve to be tested carefully and consciously. Also, let’s just say – one or two of these little marvels of scent – really won’t be enough. They all do something entirely quite different. Nadia is from Switzerland – here’s more. I quite like this page on her website. https://nadiaz.ch/product-category/natural-perfumes/

Nadia Zuodar: Dear Anita and Svetlanas, your words warm my heart. It is people like you who give meaning to all the passion and effort put in the work.
Thank you too for finding words better than I could describe myself. They are so inspirational that I’ve now put them on my collection page https://nadiaz.ch/product-category/natural-perfumes/
Svetlanas Komunity: You are so welcome, for me it is very easy because this is what I received when I tried your passion on!

(Esprit Pirate Femme)
